PBEC (PHEC)
This course was previously known as PHEC. The unit standards have been replaced and given a new course title of 'PBEC'.
The Provide Basic Emergency Care (PBEC) course is the most advanced of our first aid courses. In this course you will gain advanced first aid knowledge and learn how to use the associated emergency care equipment, such as oxygen masks, stretchers, splints and more. You will practice your CPR skills, learn about extrication techniques, provide respiratory support and airway care.
PBEC Full Course - 3 Days + Pre-course assignment
This course is intended for those working in higher risk industries, such as surf life-saving, rescue, coastguard, LandSar and many more. The following unit standard can be achieved on successful completion of the full course:
29321 - Provide basic emergency care (Level 3, Credits 14)
- Scene Management
- Primary Survey
- Secondary Survey
- Monitoring vital signs (pulse, BP, Respirations)
- CPR & choking
- AED use
- Airway Care, incl. bag mask and suctioning
- Level of Consciousness - respective patient care
- Bleeding, Shock, Burns
- Fractures, sprains & dislocations
- Medical Conditions (Asthma, Heart attack, Diabetes, Stroke, Seizures)
- Head injuries
- Spinal injuries
- Severe allergic reactions/Anaphylaxis
- Hyper- & Hypothermia (Heat & Cold emergencies)
- Emergency medical devices
- Documentation & patient handover
Pre-requisite for this course is a current Comprehensive Workplace First Aid (Level 2) or respective refresher certificate and a completed pre-course assignment. It is also essential to complete the pre-course assignment which will be emailed to you together with the confirmation upon registration for this course.On successful completion, you will gain a certificate for two years with the following NZQA unit standards: 29321
